Why I’m starting this blog
Research about Somalia is growing, but much of it never reaches the people it is about. This site is my small attempt to change that.
Every year more research is written about Somalia: university theses, donor evaluations, policy papers and journal articles. Yet when a teacher, a district official or a business owner needs evidence, it is often hard to find and harder to read.
This blog is where I will publish my own research and write about other people’s work in plain language. Some posts will be long research write-ups. Others will be short notes on a report, a book or a debate.
What to expect
- Research notes: findings from my own studies, with the method explained simply.
- Essays: shorter pieces on events and debates.
- Policy notes: practical points for people who make or carry out decisions.
- Book notes: what I am reading and why it matters.
If there is a question you think deserves more attention, write to me. Good research often starts with someone asking the right question.
